SOME FACTS ABOUT INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE WORLD PEACE GAMES
WHAT IS ICWPG?
ICWPG is the abbreviation of the International Committee World Peace Games, which is Non Governmental International Organization, created in 1983 in La Gauthiere -France.
The ICWPG was inspired by the first World Peace Games organized in Bellegarde-sur Valserine-France by the Frenchman Yves Angelloz.
HOW DOES ICWPG OPERATE?
ICWPG
is made up of ninety country representatives who meet every year on the occasion of the General Assembly to elects an Assembly.This General Assembly elects an Executive Committee and President Executive with a mandate of five years.
This committee is made of 7 members from different continent whose task is to take and apply all the necessary decisions for the smooth operation of the ICWPG and its activities.
ICWPG also has eight permanent commissions to assist and advise the Executive Committee in its work. The administration of ICWPG is entrusted to the General Secretariat whose permanent headquarters are located in Bellegarde-sur Valserine (France).
WHAT ARE THE ICWPG?
The International Committee World Peace Games are based on four converging principles:
-Sports
-Cultural
-Humanitarian
-Economical
The ICWPG are among the largest multi-sports competitions in the world.
The ICWPG are organized every two year in different country towns.
Sports competitions are held under the following categories:
a) Age groups: up to 19 years old
From 20 to 29
From 30 to 39
From 40 to 49
From 50 to 59
From 60 to 69
From 70 to 79
Over 80 years old
b) Encouraging participation of handicapped people in sports competitions.
c) Promotion of sports, apart athletic competitions, through information on sports and related activities such as medical and diet advice, in addition meeting with outstanding sports people are provided.
d) Promotion of traditional sport.
e) Hand-sports: Organization of events and tournaments in the usual disciplines.
The ICWPG, include the following sports activities:
Aerobics, Golf, Volley ball, Athletics, Hand ball, Water Polo, Basketball, Horse and Track
Windsurfing, Badminton, Gymnastic and an optional sport:
Base ball, marathon, petanque, Volley Beach, bridge, rugby
Chess, Running and Hiking, Cycling and Cycling Touring, Surfing, Diving, Swimming, Darts, Sailing
Delta plane, table tennis, Football, Tennis, Field and Track, Tir alarc.
WHO CAN TAKE PART IN ICWPG COMPETITIONS?
The ICWPG constitutes a forum open to all men and women from all Nations may meet, regardless of religion, citizenship, age or political convictions. Such meetings serve to create friendly links between participants who are devoted to sports. A number of cultural activities are organized at meetings to demonstrate the fact that sports form part of culture.
WHAT OTHER ACTIVITIES DOES ICWPG ORGANIZE?
The ICWPG, is the fruit of success and expansion of international events for almost 16 years.
The ICWPG has organized every year some activities based on four constant and converging principles: Sports, Cultural, Humanitarian, Economical.
Provide assistance to developing countries in the following area, Training, contribution materials, consultations, provide assistance grants to finance special project of sports, cultural and social (center of formation of physical and health educators).
The ICWPG organizes a number of cultural activities that can help to promote understanding and cooperation among people of deferent nations, Exhibitions, discussions, concert, film festivals, conference and a peace forum are envisaged, In addition, the host country will have the opportunity to show its natural and artistic treasures to the participants and put them in contact with its history. Participants will make tours to natural spots and towns with cultural or historical importance, and attend village festivities. The above three categories provide comprehensive coverage of sports activities.
WHY IS THERE A SEMINAR?
The Seminar and workshops for the Study of the sports and health organized by the ICWPG during the summer, enables scientific researchers specialized in sport and physical education to present the results of their work to their colleagues and university sport leaders. This conference helps to create a closer bond between research and the sociological reality of today.
WHY IS A FORUM NECESSARY?
The forum of peace organized by the ICWPG are inspired and based on the belief that international sport competitions promote international understanding and tolerance and, therefore, they are toll for international peace as well as to discuss issues that they have been confronted with in order to continually improve the relationship between education, culture and sport.
WHAT IS ICWPG MISSION?
The International Committee World Peace Games are sanctioned by the Cooperation Agreements signed by UNESCO/FIDEPS, the United Towns Organization and the University for Peace of the United Nations.
In accordance with resolution 1296 (XLIV) of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, the Secretary General of the United Nations, in document E/CN.4/Sub.2/ 1985/NGO/12, distributed the Charter of the INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE WORLD PEACE GAMES which reads as follows:
“ Considering that regular practice of physical activity at all ages of life contributes largely to a better physical and moral health for individuals.
Convinced that sports meetings carry an atmosphere of fair emulation and bring peoples together in a peaceful manner; that therefore they have an important part to play in the understanding and friendship between man and civilizations.
Insisting that competitive sports must remain to the service of educative sports of which it is the illustration and the crowning.
Wishing that it contributes to the promotion of physical education for all; the finality of this education being the fulfilling and perfecting of the human being.”
The INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE WORLD PEACE GAMES, pledges to work so that:
-Sports activities open up to everyone from the children to the elderly; to make sports a lifetime companion;
-Sports meetings are organized within very distinct age groups in order to give the performance of every individual, regardless of his age, a real meaning;
- Sports get as close to nature as possible,
- Sports are a part and parcel of culture,
- The INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE WORLD PEACE GAMES represent:
-One step in a vast movement in favor of sports activities for everyone to fight against the damage done to our civilizations;
-A means given to the men and peoples of the world to be able to express themselves in joy, friendship, fraternity and altruism;
-A privileged place to exchange ideas, thoughts, advice, and to exchange philosophical, religious and political conceptions between men, the international sports movement and civilizations;
- A new facet of humanism in the service of sports, man and peace.

1995/97 The International Committee World Peace Games have organized the following activities:
-International Race of the representative of more than hundred athletes different countries in the occasion of the French revolution. The Race starts from Geneva-Paris-Tunis -Tripoli.
-“Peace Boat”, departure from France and touching main Mediterranean ports to promote respect for the environment and peace in the Middle East Regions and Mediterranean.
-Sports training and Health activities in Geneva and the Headquarters of the World Peace Games.
-International Concerts in Switzerland and France
-International African Concerts for Africa Aid in Italy
-International concerts in favor SOS countries against the
Racism in Italy.
